Here We Go Again

Spain! The land of sun and beaches, well at least everyone thinks that. I’ve been in Spain for just under two days and so far I’ve not really seen the sun or a beach. Well, it’s not likely that I will see a beach what with me being in the middle of the country but hopefully the sun will show itself soon.

I’d like to say that the journey to Spain wasn’t too eventful but that would be a lie. It was eventful from the very minute I left my house in Sheffield. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to reach the train station in time due to the amount of snow that had fallen the night before. The road from my house was treacherous, as there is quite a steep hill, and I thought the car would end up skidding into another vehicle on the road. Luckily we made it safely down the hill but then had to wait for my nan to arrive as she’d offered to accompany me to Liverpool. We had to park in a junction and it was a little difficult for us to be able to get back onto the road.

We eventually made it to Sheffield train station, after being stuck behind some idiot who decided that it was acceptable to drive below the speed limit on Parkway, in enough time for me to be able to print off my train ticket and to find the platform.  There was a slight delay on the train but that wasn’t much of a problem as it turned out that my flight was already delayed by an hour before I even checked in my bag. I didn’t think that would be much of a problem but as I waited in the departure lounge my flight was pushed by back a further 30 minutes. Now an hour and half delay may not seem like a lot currently but when you have to catch a coach that you’ve already booked then it starts to become an issue. Unfortunately  I missed my coach by a  couple of minutes. I left the doors of the airport and saw it drive past me. I eventually arrived in Salamanca at around 9:40pm local time but didn’t reach my flat until nearly 10pm as I walked from the bus station to my house.

So far, I’ve not done much exploring of Salamanca but I have found the closest shops to me so at least I will be able to eat. My flat is really lovely and little but it just means that everything is closer together. Hopefully, I will be able to talk more about the city next time.

Hasta luego
