Taco Bell’s Happy Hour Menu Launch!

Taco Bell recently launched their new Happy Hour Menu, and I was lucky enough to get an invite to try it! I’ve not been to a Taco Bell since I was in Madrid 2 years ago and I was a little nostalgic got Taco Tuesdays, but I think the new menu might be even better!

Since seeing the information about the new Freeze drinks I really wanted to try them. Slush puppies have always been one of my favourite drinks, even now it is one of my go to drinks when I’m somewhere warm! They have two flavours that can be either alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Because of driving we opted for non-alcoholic, but you could see how the flavours were utilised.

You can either have the Lemon Quencher (or Mojito with alcohol) or the Strawberry Smash (Daiquiri). Todd opted for the Strawberry one, so I went with Lemon. It was honestly the most lemony drink I’ve ever had! It tasted like you’re drinking a lemon sorbet. Which I loved as I love sorbets. But it did get a little bit too much as the only flavour, and I may have stolen a little of Todd’s. The strawberry freeze tasted like they had pureed some strawberries and frozen them. It was so nice. I asked Todd what he thought and he managed to eloquently describe it as “a slush puppy on roids”. Thanks love!!

The Happy Hour Menu has so many nice dishes on it and we might have gotten a little carried away and gone for three of them! In fairness, one of them was a dessert sharing plate. We got the Quesadilla Nachos, Chicken Sharing Plate and Dessert Sharing Plate. I thought that would be enough for the two of us, and I was right! We only just managed to get through everything.

The quesadillas nachos were really good! They were soft and the cheese inside wasn’t overpowering. A good mix and it worked so well! The only thing that may have let them down was the amount of guacamole and the tomato and onion salsa mix. There was a little too much on there for my liking! Usually I have nachos and feel like there isn’t enough, but because the quesadillas were so soft it was difficult to scoop up! Who’d have thought softness would be an issue?

I never thought I’d say this but the chicken strips on the chicken share plate were nicer than KFC…. How have I managed to find fried chicken somewhere that is nicer than KFC? I could have eaten a plateful of just and I wouldn’t have cared! Taco Bell, you have surprised me in a way I never thought possible. The mexican chicken quesadillas were really good, I mean the normal quesadillas were great so adding chicken to the mix just made it loads better! I also have a bit of a soft spot for the cheesy fries. Normal fries with paprika sprinkling and then smothered in melted cheese! Cheese is pretty much life to me and cheesy fries are perfect, but who doesn’t like them? As Todd put it they were “chips i can get along with”.

We got two little pots of sauce to go with the chicken plate. I think one of them was the fiesta salsa and it had a little bit of a kick to it! I found it manageable but if you have a low spice tolerance you may struggle a little with it. It did taste great though as well! I think the other was a tomato salsa, and that was mild and great. Todd preferred that one and I did think the flavour was a little better.

To the dessert plate! This is where I was expecting great things! We got 6 churros and 4 chocadillas to eat, but we were missing chocolate sauce to dip them in! The chocadillas were great, it was pretty much a nutella pancake folded into triangles. I don’t know anyone could not like that. I was a little apprehensive about the churros though as I’ve tried them so many times. What I usually find to be an issue with them is that they are too greasy and with little flavour. These were different. They weren’t greasy and they were sweet. I don’t know if it was brown sugar or cinnamon on them but it made such a difference. I’m happy that I can say I have found a churro recipe I love!

I thought that the prices were good. It wasn’t too expensive but it wasn’t exactly cheap either. I think for all that it cost around £20. To say that we were full does make it seem like a good deal. But I can’t help but wonder if it would always be that way. I do know that I would pay any price for those chicken strips!!

I have to say Taco Bell, you have really outdone yourself this time and I am definitely going to be heading back at some point! Even if it’s just for the dessert platter to myself!!

I love the design on the walls, and I think this was my favourite!

Have any of you tried the new menu? What did you think to it?
