When to get into the Christmas Spirit?

I find it really difficult to get into the Christmas Spirit too early. My sister on the other hand, not so much. She is ready to put her tree up at the beginning of November. But in recent years I’ve been struggling. My main issue is that my birthday is on the 2nd December (that’s right it’s today!) and I don’t really want to focus on Christmas before then. I’m not saying I get all torches and pitchforks on those that do. But I can’t find the hype! What if you Christmas for too long and then the 25th turns up and you have no Christmas spirit left?

I do feel that I am more able to feel Christmassy after my birthday. I start to play some Christmas songs, mixed in with normal songs. After working in retail I decided constant Christmas songs on repeat is not something that you want to hear. You eventually get the urge to break something after the 4th hour on the first day. I don’t want to be inducing rage in people! I make a playlist that has true Christmas songs in it, a few carols and then the odd song that was released around Christmas or part of a soundtrack for a Christmas film. I’m looking at you “What If”! (To be honest, that is one of my favourite songs ever and I listen to it all year round!)

I’m going to assume that if you’ve come to this post, you are wanting to get into the Christmas spirit earlier but you don’t feel like you can. I am here to tell you that you can do what you please! There is a lot of stigma against people getting excited about Christmas in November. Honestly, if it wasn’t for my birthday I would be getting really excited a lot earlier as well! To me, the people who get annoyed at things like what and when you are happy about something are not important. I don’t understand why some people want to dictate how others enjoy life. So enjoy things when as as you please!

If you are the sort of person who is looking for inspiration as to how to get into the Christmas spirit, I think I can help. The best way is to literally surround yourself with Christmas. How to do this you ask? First off, you need to find some classic Christmas films to help give you that festive feeling, think A Christmas Carol. The next thing you need to do is get some cinnamon. It is used in so many foods and drinks that if you get some your house will smell like Christmas. Trust me, a cinnamon candle is one of the best things to use so you feel christmassy. You’re also going to want some Christmas songs. But like I said before you don’t want to gov overboard with these! The odd few mixed in with a normal playlist help to give random bursts of Christmas spirit.

If those don’t do the trick, then try spending time with more family members. Christmas should be about those that are in your life and enjoying the happiness from all around you. It might seem super cheesy but it can help! Plus, it’s always nice to visit people you haven’t seen in a while!

To be honest, I don’t think there is a specific time when you are allowed to get into the Christmas spirit. It depends on each person, and as long as you’re happy then it shouldn’t matter. What does matter is that you have made the decision yourself about it!
