Visiting Germany

Okay, I know it’s been a while and I should have done this last week but I forgot so I hope you can all forgive me. Also, I’d just like to say thank you to everyone who reads my blog. I don’t know who all of you but it’s nice to know that some people put in the time and effort to read what I have to write.

Now that that’s over with, onto the main event.

A while ago I decided that I would visit Ryan in Germany before his second semester at uni started, so I chose the week after my Easter week as it was his last week of holidays and I thought it would be a nice way of ending it for him. My flight to Frankfurt was on Monday 8th April at nearly 8pm but I had to get a coach that took me to the airport for 4pm so that I knew I wouldn’t miss my flight or the check in time. The joys of living two and half hours away from the airport. Due to the really late flight, I didn’t get to Germany until 10:30pm but it wasn’t too bad as Ryan brought me cheeseburgers to the airport so I didn’t have to wait for food.

There wasn’t much rush to the week as I’ve already been twice before and I didn’t need to run around frantically and see everything, which in my view makes things a lot better. On the Tuesday we went to the shopping centre in Frankfurt where they have practically everything and I got to visit Primark for the first time in ages! You never realise how much you like something until you can’t get to it. But because of this we spent the time we had in Frankfurt shopping; I don’t think Ryan was too happy with the idea. But we had to rush back to Mainz as we had been invited to a last minute party that took place in the university bar next to the university. Before we headed to the bar we had pre-drinks at Ryan’s friend’s house. The night was alright and I got to speak a little French and Spanish as there were a lot of French and Spanish Erasmus students.

We didn’t do much on Wednesday apart from laze around and play video games, which I thought was a great way to spend the day but at the same time it would have been nice to be able to do something else as I can laze around and play games anywhere. However, we did eventually leave so we could go to Besitos which is a Spanish tapas restaurant near the train station. They do absolutely amazing food for a really good price and you always feel full afterwards. I am going to miss being able to go there every few months when the year abroad is over.

I can’t remember if it was the Thursday or Friday that we decided to try and go to Cologne or not but in the end we didn’t end up going as the tickets were ridiculously expensive to pay for on the day, the joys of Ryan not having properly working internet. So we went back to Frankfurt and this time we decided to go for a walk around the city. It was really nice to see everything in the daytime as the last time I saw any of the city I was in the dark and couldn’t appreciate it all. I don’t know how long we were walking for but I know that my legs were burning when sat down later on in the day to eat some food from a bakery. We didn’t really do much whilst we were in Frankfurt for the second time, we went to another shopping centre and I managed to get a bit more clothing that was on sale and then I went to Primark to find a cheap bag as I can find none in Spain! But, I let Ryan go into the Game shop where he bought himself a new game that is completely in German and he also bought me a Game of Thrones game but I stupidly left it in his flat so I will have to wait a while before I can actually play it. After that we just walked around until we had to go back to Mainz.

It was nice to be able to see Ryan again and to meet some more of his friends and talk with them but it will be nice to be back in Bangor next year where I don’t have to wait for over a month to get to see him.

Hasta la fuego

Lauren 🙂 x
