A New Year, A New Adventure

First of all I’d like to say, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope that you’ve all had a lovely one and that Christmas was just as good. Hopefully not too many people have had to put up with the adverse weather.

I know it might seem weird that I am uploading a post now but I just wanted to update people on my search for a house in Spain. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you see it, as I study both French and Spanish equally at university I have to split my time in half, which means having to find another accommodation. Luckily, it has not been anywhere near as difficult to find one for Salamanca.

I was told today that I have got a room in a flat in the centre of Salamanca and that I just need to wait until my contract arrives in the post so that I can sign it and send it back to my new Landlady along with my deposit and then I’m all sorted. The best part about my new room is that the rent is only €230 a month and I’m pretty sure that includes all the bills as well. That is so much cheaper than France so I’m hoping to be able to save some of my money up whilst I’m there. I knew that the rent would be a lot less, and I’m hoping that food is just as cheap in Spain as the rent seems to be. I don’t know what I’m going to do when I get back to England and have to pay in pounds any more.

My flight to Madrid is also booked! Booking tickets always makes things feel so much more real but at the same time it feels like it will be a long time away before I actually leave. All of my travel (from my house in Sheffield to the new flat in Salamanca) will cost me around £90, one way, but that includes a train, a bus, a flight and a coach journey so not too bad. I just need to book the train and the coach now. I know it seems like a lot but apparently there aren’t many airlines that fly to Madrid. I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s winter or if it’s due to the fact that it’s not near a beach and not a big tourist destination.

I don’t think there is much else left to say and I don’t think I will post again until I am in Spain so I hope that everyone else who is currently looking for places to live manages to get one sorted soon.
