December Fitness Recap

I know what you’re thinking, it might not be a good idea to recap my December fitness. But I think you might be surprised by what you read! Firstly, from the end of November to the second week in December I lost 4lbs! I was so happy with this drop as it was the first significant change that I’ve had since August! It helps that I know this was because of the extra exercise I’d been doing. I guess it does mean that any sort of physical activity is good for me.

Unfortunately, it didn’t stay as positive! As the cold set in I found myself less motivated to try and get outdoors and do anything! And I couldn’t find the motivation to head to the gym as much either. I did go, once I think, but there were so many people I could barely do anything! That, as well as the chocolate, alcohol and good food from both my birthday and Christmas meant that I put 2 of those hard lost lbs back on! Although I think that’s a pretty fair gain to say I barely moved and ate more than normal last month!

I think the past few months have shown me that I can improve my overall health and fitness but I need to work on the areas that seem to be the biggest problems for me. I’ve made a goal for myself in 2018 to get my health and fitness in check properly. (You can read about it here.) Admittedly, it’s been something I’ve wanted to work on for a while. But I think it might be something I can feasibly do this year.

One area I really want to work on is my diet as I don’t eat a lot of varied foods, and my junk food levels are high! I want to start making batch meals that I can freeze or put in the fridge so I have nice healthy meals to eat later in the week, and also take to work. I know I feel like I’m trying to become a “proper” adult now. But this means focusing on planning meals and budgeting to make sure that I can afford to do this. It also means buying more Tupperware as no matter how many plastic boxes I have, they still go missing! I think if I have better lunches at work that might help me feel fuller, and stop me snacking as much at home.

The next thing I want to focus on is moving more. Literally any sort of moving. I signed up to a 10k step challenge in January (post about this is here) and so far I’m doing more walking. I know that walking is really good for me as it helps improve my heart rate and my fitness. But I want to make sure that I’m lowering my body fat percentage as well. We all know that BMI is a load of rubbish, and I always take it with a pinch of salt, but I’d love to have it lower and closer to the average area for my height. This may be more than a 2018 goal though!

So although my December wasn’t as productive as I would have liked it to be. I am looking forward to the next few months once I’ve got my plans in place properly. And if I’m lucky I might decide I enjoy walking home and continue it after January. I will admit I am enjoying the hour or so it takes to listen to some music and stretch my legs! But I am also hoping to try some more varied recipes. If I manage it, it may be that a few of them are featured on the blog over the next few months.
